Duke City Classics Sprint Series Final Photogs...

Albuquerque's finest dangerdrome.

Sprints are about friends and ghostin' about.

These guys both lost.

This guy won.

Not before putting up a fight, however.

The Crankfather was there getting linear. (Thanks again G!)

AJ was so excited he was spinning and giving everyone the Fonz.

The vanquished in bitter repose/Paul rocking a halfie/Jeff enthused.

Fixie apocalypse.

Ross brings the Reckoning.

Polka getting life-coached.

All photo credits to to Robin Cunningham. Thanks one more goddamn time to all the sponsors, supporters, Polka, and most of all the participants (i.e. the photog'd).

It's that time of year again. It's just like the LA Riots when they unleash the crowd so we'll be grabbing a spot at the front... be there!

Last week I was approached by Hawke from Team Cross about a Fixed Gear Crit he is interested in organizing. It would be on a closed course on the southern end of 2nd St., 10 laps, approx. 20 min. race time. This would be part of their Informal Tuesday Series with road crits at 6, fixed around 7pm.

Here’s the problem – the USAC is requiring additional permits for the fixed gear portion (fucking bureaucracy) and so Hawke is understandably reluctant to spend extra time and money if only 5 people show up. I am personally really stoked on this, both to race a fixed crit and to do an event that could bridge the roadie/fixie gap. If you are interested in participating, shoot me an email (dpolks85@gmail.com) or hit the comments so I can get a good estimate of the turnout and pass that on to Hawke.

DUKE CITY CLASSIC - RECAP VOL. 1

Grass Track Grands - Fucking freezing, but alot of fun nonetheless. Matt S. won Grass Track and was a force to be reckoned with during Capture the Flag. Props to Jacob and Justin who took 2nd and 3rd. Next one will be much warmer.

You Know? Alleycat - Great turnout for a wed. night, really fun race. Paul and Jason tied for first place with 22 points and a time of 1:12, I was a close third with 22 points and 1:14. AJ took most points in shortest time, with 18 points in under an hour. Hopefully this inspires people to do more points races, it's a really cool format that keeps things interesting.

Photos from Hey Fixie, which you should really check out if you haven't yet - Jeff offers some hilarious analysis of "the sub-surface rumblings of abq's fixed bikelife."

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved - Bret, Jake, and Robin for organizing an awesome Polo tournament, bringing out teams from all over the Southwest, even as far as San Diego. Thanks to all the teams who made the 5, 7, 15 hour drives to get out here and play bikes for a weekend, and all the ABQ heads who hosted these motley crews for the weekend. Thanks to Jake for throwing the You Know? Alleycat and Jacob for his help (volunteers are always needed), thanks to Sam at Fixed&Free for his constant support of all our events. Big thanks to all our sponsors: Cinelli, The Crankfather, All City, Fyxation, Silver Board Shop, Two Wheel Drive, Bianchi, Urban Velo, Fixed&Free, and Velocity - it's rad to get big-name companies and local businesses alike involved in grassroots cycling events. Thanks to Gerhardt, who inspired me to start throwing events, and helped make the Fixed&Furious Sprint Series a great night. And finally, on behalf of Jake and myself, I would like to extend the biggest thanks to everyone who came out last week to participate or spectate, we do this for you guys (and gals).

Now we're taking a break. It's your turn. If you have a cool idea for a race, get in touch with us, we'll help you make it happen.

TONIGHT!!
Finals tonight, 8 pm. I'm offering folks one last chance to qualify for sprints. Get there at 7 for timed qualifying heats, there's a lot of swag on the line so come flex those calves! Plus a brand new tire for longest skid, the usual 40's of O.E., and all the standard mayhem. BIG games of footdown, too. Don't miss this, its gonna be lovely tonight.

Thanks everyone.

DUKE CITY CLASSIC - POLO TOURNAMENT
Great weekend. I have a grip of photos and video to go through, will get those up soon. Congratulations to the winners, Team 3G from Phoenix, whose grandfather/father/son trifecta was pretty much unstoppable, despite a valiant effort by Denver's Jagwolves, who took second. Big thanks to everyone who made the drive, all our sponsors, and Bret, Jake, and Robin for their hard work in making this happen. I think I need to get a polo bike now...
